In 1997, Montana adopted legislation to provide competition to the state’s electricity market. When Montana Power Company decided to sell its generating assets, PPL bought them in December 1999.

Our history here is relatively short. But we’re a subsidiary of PPL Corporation, a company that has been in the electricity business for more than 80 years and is known for generating reliable electricity, caring for the environment, investing in local economies and partnering with the communities.

With that history and the help of our 500 PPL Montana employees, we’re working hard to become a successful business and good corporate citizen — one that adds to the economic stability and quality of life in this state.

As the successful bidder for the Montana power plants, we spent more than three-quarters of a billion dollars on the promise of an open and competitive market for the electricity. Our success as a business in a competitive marketplace and our long-term ability to provide the electricity Montanans need depend on how well we meet our customers’ needs, how well we run our power plants, the cost of our product and service and whether we make good business decisions.
