Clean Energy

The Ryan Dam near Great Falls, Mont.

The demand for electricity is rising. To keep up, we develop new solutions to generate power and continue to improve and upgrade existing power plants.

We share the desire for cleaner sources of energy. PPL owns or controls about 800 megawatts of renewable or alternative energy, more than 70 percent of which comes from PPL Montana’s hydroelectric power plants.

PPL also owns hydroelectric generating facilities in Pennsylvania and Maine; has built new power plants in Arizona, Illinois, Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania fired by clean-burning natural gas; and has entered into a partnership with the developer of a wind farm in Pennsylvania.

Additionally, we have developed landfill methane and fuel cell projects and fuel cells, some of which other companies operate and use.

Our coal-fired power plants are cleaner today than they were yesterday, and will be cleaner tomorrow than they are today. We have reduced our emissions of key pollutants significantly, but more work remains to be done. We will continue to focus on greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global climate change, trace air emissions, groundwater contamination from natural compounds in coal ash and fine particulate emissions.

We are committed to providing the energy the world needs in ways that preserve our natural resources.
