PPL Montana announces student prize-winners in water safety poster contest

Be careful of eroded river banks.

Look before you leap.

There are rules for a reason.

This is the sound advice from the three grand prize-winning students in PPL Montana’s water safety poster contest this fall. Their entries will be featured in a special 2008 calendar that will be distributed to schools, community leaders and PPL Montana facilities.

More than 100 children in Grades 3-5 in Montana communities statewide responded with creative artwork and wise safety messages to PPL’s invitation to submit poster entries.

Students could choose any outdoor water activity — swimming, fishing or boating — to create a poster that contains an important message about safety around Montana’s many lakes, rivers and streams. Some of the most scenic and popular waterways in the state surround the 11 hydroelectric facilities operated by PPL Montana.

“Once again, students from across Montana came up with imaginative ways to convey messages on how to stay safe and enjoy the water recreation opportunities in our state,” said Lisa Perry, PPL Montana’s manager of Community Affairs.

“I’d like to give a special thanks to educators, who encouraged their students to take advantage of this creative, hands-on learning opportunity and help children understand the importance of water safety,” she said.

Grand-prize winners will receive shares of PPL Corporation stock valued at $100; runners-up will receive shares of PPL Corporation stock valued at $75; and honorable-mention winners will receive shares of PPL Corporation stock valued at $50.
