About 75 percent of the electricity PPL Montana generates in Montana stays in Montana.

PPL EnergyPlus — PPL’s competitive sales and marketing arm — is an agent for the sale of PPL Montana generation and also purchases electricity from PPL Montana for resale to retail customers. 

To ensure that electricity users are getting the best prices with the least amount of risk over the long run, we support the expansion of wholesale and retail markets so that customers have choice.

Our western office in Butte, Mont., is staffed by 25 dedicated employees, most of whom are Montana natives who have lived and worked in the state managing energy assets in the western United States. PPL EnergyPlus’ eastern office is located in Allentown, Pa.

We sell a majority of the electricity generated by PPL Montana through fixed-priced, long-term competitive contracts. That means our prices do not change during the term of the contract — no matter what the market does. This ensures stable prices for our customers. In addition, we buy and sell electricity on a short-term or daily basis — at market prices — in order to meet our contract obligations.
